Spider, it's bites, and the remedies for them.
About the Brown Recluse Spider
The Brown Recluse Spider (Loxosceles
reclusa) is a relatively small spider (6 to 20
mm) found in the south eastern parts of the United States,
from Nebraska to Indiana and down to western Georgia
and Texas.
The Brown Recluse Spider is a well-known
arachnid species throughout it's native region, and
abroad. They are a part of the family Sicariidae, but
used to be categorized in the family Loxoscelidae. As
the name suggests, their colour is normally brown, but
it can range from a light tan to a deep yellow as well.
The Brown Recluse Spider has markings
on their body with a black line that gives the impression
of a violin with the neck pointing towards their rear.
These markings are responsible for humans giving this
spider the nicknames violin spider and brown
fiddler.
This 'violin pattern' can not be used to distinguish
the Brown Recluse Spider though, as
other spiders have similar markings. To identify this
spider, you need to look at the eyes. Most spiders have
eight eyes, but the Brown Recluse Spider has six eyes
arranged in pairs (one median pair, two lateral pairs).
Some other spider species have six eyes, but the Brown
Recluse Spider lacks the coloration patterns
on the abdomen and the leg spines that those other spiders
have.
